8 October 2026: Motorbook, a new independent iPhone app for UK drivers, has launched on the UK App Store. It brings together official MOT and tax dates, reminders and live fuel prices from the government's Fuel Finder scheme in a single app that needs no account.

The launch comes as the government's push for fuel-price transparency starts to reach drivers. Fuel Finder was created after the Competition and Markets Authority's road-fuel market study found that competition between forecourts had weakened and drivers were paying more than they should. Since February 2026, UK petrol stations have been legally required to report price changes within 30 minutes. The government estimates that comparing prices could save households with a car an average of £40 a year.
At the same time, the routine admin of owning a car still catches drivers out. MOT and tax dates come round once a year, are easy to forget, and missing either can mean a fine. Motorbook is designed to keep those dates and the cost of running a car in one place.
When a driver enters their registration, Motorbook fills in the vehicle's details, MOT expiry and tax due date from official UK records. It then sends reminders about a month before, a week before and on the day, with shortcuts to book an MOT or renew tax on GOV.UK. Drivers can also see the vehicle's full MOT history, including advisories and recorded mileage, so they can spot problems before the next test.
The app's Nearby tab shows live petrol and diesel prices from Fuel Finder, along with EV charge points, garages and MOT test centres. It also includes insurance reminders, a Home Screen widget, Siri shortcuts and Apple Wallet vehicle passes. Premium users get a service and cost log and a document wallet.
“Every driver has the same handful of dates and costs to keep on top of, but they're spread across letters, GOV.UK pages and different apps,” said Nathan James, developer of Motorbook. “Fuel Finder is a good example of public data that's genuinely useful to drivers. Motorbook puts it next to the dates that matter, so drivers know what's due and where to fill up for less, without having to think about it.”
Motorbook is built with privacy in mind. It doesn't need an account, vehicle records and reminders are stored on the user's iPhone, and reminders are created on the device rather than sent from a server.
