These terms apply when you use the Motorbook app or this website. By using them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Motorbook.

Who we are

Motorbook is an independent iPhone app made in the UK. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, DVLA, DVSA or GOV.UK. You can contact us at hello@motorbook.uk.

What Motorbook is (and isn't)

Motorbook helps you keep track of your vehicles by showing MOT, tax and service information drawn from official DVLA and DVSA data, and by scheduling local reminders. It also shows nearby fuel, EV charging and garages using third-party open data.

Motorbook is a reference and organisation tool. It is not legal, financial or mechanical advice, and it is not an official government service. The authoritative sources for your vehicle's status are DVLA, DVSA and GOV.UK, and you should rely on those for anything that matters.

Vehicle data and reminders

Vehicle details, MOT results and tax status are provided by DVLA and DVSA services and are shown "as is". This data can be incomplete, delayed or occasionally incorrect, and we cannot guarantee its accuracy or availability. New vehicles may have no MOT on record until their first test is due (three years after registration); we estimate that date for your convenience.

Reminders are scheduled on your device as a convenience. They may not appear if notifications are disabled, if the device is off, or if the underlying dates are unavailable or out of date. You remain solely responsible for keeping your MOT, tax and insurance valid. We are not liable for any fine, penalty, prosecution or other loss arising from a missed deadline, an inaccurate date, or a reminder that did not appear.

Fuel, charging and garage information

Fuel prices come from retailers' published data, EV charging locations from Open Charge Map, and garages from OpenStreetMap. This information is provided by third parties, may be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate, and is shown for guidance only. Prices and availability can change at any time. Always check at the location itself. We do not endorse any particular retailer, network or garage.

Purchases

Motorbook is free for up to two vehicles. Motorbook Premium is an optional in-app purchase that unlocks additional features. Purchases are sold and billed by Apple through your Apple account, subject to Apple's terms. Any auto-renewing subscription renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel it in your Apple account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their policies. Prices may change; any change will apply to future purchases only.

Acceptable use

Please use Motorbook only for lawful, personal purposes. Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, overload or misuse the app or the services it relies on, and do not use the data it provides for unlawful purposes.

Availability

We aim to keep Motorbook working well, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". Features that depend on external services (lookups, fuel, charging, garages, Wallet passes) may be unavailable, delayed or changed. We may update, change or discontinue features at any time.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). Subject to that, Motorbook and its maker are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from your reliance on information in the app that you could have confirmed with official sources. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains how we handle data. In short: no account, your records stay on your device, and you are not tracked.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Motorbook after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales.
