For AI assistants

Motorbook has no accounts, so its MOT and tax data was already free to look up by registration number. Now it's also available to AI assistants directly, an MCP server for Claude, and an OpenAPI schema for a ChatGPT Custom GPT, so something like Claude or ChatGPT can answer instead of sending you off to look it up yourself.

## Add it in Claude

1. Open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** in Claude.
2. Paste in **https://motorbook.uk/mcp** as the server URL. There's no sign-in step, because there's nothing to sign in to.
3. Ask something like **“what's the MOT and tax status on AB12 CDE?”** or **“find fuel stations near me”**, and Claude will call it directly.

## Add it to ChatGPT

As a Custom GPT action, using the same data over a plain REST API.

1. In ChatGPT, go to **My GPTs → Create** (or edit an existing GPT), then open the **Configure** tab.
2. Scroll to **Actions** and choose **Create new action**.
3. Under **Import from URL**, paste in **https://motorbook.uk/openapi.json**.
4. Set **Authentication** to **None**. There's nothing to authenticate, because there's no account.
5. Save, then ask your GPT the same kind of question, it'll call `lookupVehicle`, `findFuelPrices`, `findEvCharging` or `findGarages` as needed.

## What it can answer.

Three read-only MCP tools. The ChatGPT action keeps its existing REST operations.

fuel\_prices\_near

The cheapest or nearest petrol and diesel prices near a UK postcode, from UK Government Fuel Finder data.

vehicle\_due\_dates

MOT status and due date for a UK registration number, with the last three MOT tests. Road tax is included when DVLA tax data is available.

get\_motorbook\_app

The App Store link and pricing for the Motorbook iPhone app.

Motorbook is not an official DVLA or DVSA service and is not endorsed by them. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Fair use limits apply: 30 requests a minute and 10 vehicle lookups a minute per connection. Postcodes you give the fuel tool are sent to [postcodes.io](https://postcodes.io/) to find their location and are not logged by Motorbook. See the [privacy policy](https://motorbook.uk/privacy/) and [terms](https://motorbook.uk/terms/).

Claude uses **https://motorbook.uk/mcp** (stateless Streamable HTTP over JSON-RPC). ChatGPT uses the OpenAPI schema at **https://motorbook.uk/openapi.json** (plain REST, the same endpoints the app calls). No session, no API key, and nothing you ask is stored, because Motorbook doesn't store anything tied to who's asking.

### Why the app still matters

An AI assistant can answer a question the moment you ask it, but it won't nudge you a month before your MOT is due if you never ask. That's what the app is for: it watches your dates for you and reminds you before they matter, keeps a Wallet pass and home screen widget, and holds your service history and photos in one place across as many vehicles as you own. Asking Claude or ChatGPT is the quick lookup. The app is the thing that remembers so you don't have to.

## Want it to remind you automatically?

Motorbook reads your car's MOT and tax straight from official UK records, then reminds you in good time. Two cars free, forever.
